Fields of Activity:

The Authority for the Advancement of the Status of Women was legally established in 1998 as part of the Prime Minister’s Office.  The purpose of the law was to advance the status of women in Israel and coordinate between governmental and non-governmental bodies acting to promote the status of women.

Fields of activity of the Authority include:
- The formulation, advancement and encouragement of policy and activity to advance the status of women, equality between the sexes and the prevention of violence against women.
- Encouraging, coordinating and promoting activity in government offices, local authorities and non-governmental organizations which act in the field of advancing the status of women.
- Establishing, oversight and follow-up of government office activity in the field of the status of women.
- Consultation for government offices regarding the enforcement of laws under the purview of the Authority.
- Acting to increase public awareness regarding the Authority’s field of activity, including the education system and the media.
- Acting to advance legislation in the field of the status of women.
- Gathering information and data and promoting research initiatives in the field of the advancement of the status of women.
